Wet on wet painting by Sarah Baldwin

Found this wet on wet basic techniques introduction in YouTube prepared by Sarah Baldwin, please see video below:

Here are some simple summary for wet on wet watercolor painting:

Tools:

  1. heavy weight 140grams drawing paper (soak in water for 10 minutes)
  2. a plastic basin (which can lay the painting paper flat)
  3. water color paint (red, yellow and blue, Sarah use Stockmart and we substitute with Alpha brand)
  4. 3 glass bottles (you can mix in bigger bottle and pour a little to smaller jar when use)
  5. 1 glass bottle for cleaning brush
  6. chopstick to mix the color with water (while preparation)
  7. brush
  8. plastic painting board
  9. sponge (Sarah use 2 sponge, one for cleaning, one for drawing preparation)
Instructions:
  1. soak the drawing paper in basin. if you need to soak more than one, lay the drawing paper into the basin separately so they wont stick together.
  2. while soaking the paper, you can prepare the color. mix the water color in water and stir with chopstick. test the color on draft paper and add on color or water accordingly. for younger children, always start with single color or two. for kids 4-6yo, you can introduce all 3 colors.
  3. clean the painting board with sponge
  4. place the drawing paper on board and use a clean sponge to wipe off extra water. do not soak your drawing paper.
  5. while preparing the paper, use can sing a song (lyric please see below) and begin your story (see the video)

Lyrics to Painting Song:
A lovely rainbow, see it span
So brightly shining over the land
It is so red, gold, green and blue
I'd like to climb it now with you
A lovely rainbow, see it span
So brightly shining over the land

Happy painting~
